Log House Style Floor Plans & Designs

Log home plans today are wide-ranging, from designs with true log walls with traditional chinking between the logs to keep out the weather, to designs where logs are used only as special effects on an otherwise conventionally built frame. All have rustic character and recall early life in the backwoods and on the prairie. America's log cabins were influenced by the Homestead Act of 1862, which gave homesteaders rights to open land, but required that they cultivate it and build homes at least ten by twelve feet in size, with at least one glass window. Today’s log homes have become popular in mountain destinations around the country because of their rustic backwoods romance. Ski resorts like Sun Valley, Idaho have become a sort of mecca for log homes in all shapes and sizes.
