Ranch Plans are Convenient, Eco-Friendly and Economical
Ranch homes are convenient and economical, as a more simple structural design reduces building material costs. They are also more eco-friendly because it takes less energy to heat and cool, as energy does not dissipate throughout a second level. Because they are well suited to Univeral Design, ranch style homes will most likely increase in popularity as the aging population grows in the next decade. The number of stairs is minimized, making it easier to navigate the home on foot or in a wheelchair, and one level makes for easier upkeep.
Ranch style house plans are also convenient for young families who need to be close to the nursery or keep a watchful eye on children. A wise plan would be to build on a lot where expansion of the home is possible. Either design the home so that a second story can be added as the family grows, or leave room for additions at the rear or side. This is certainly a family plan with options as varied as the homeowners that build them.
Although ranch plans can be compact, square footage does not have to be minimal. Ranch homes can be rambling on a wide lot in a Contemporary style, or built in a smaller style similar to Cape Cod, Cottage and Bungalow, which are quaint and cozy with distinct architectural details. Ranch homes often need to be constructed on a larger lot, as it takes more land to build out rather than up, but this could be the perfect opportunity to maximize outdoor living space. Add a large patio at the rear, or possibly a pool to entertain children and guests.
